At Vyrao we’re an all-female team, and our founder Yasmin Sewell is not only passionate about female independence, she’s from a line of strong women who inspire her, and us, daily.
Yasmin’s grandmother Georgette (we named a fragrance for her) raised three children and 10 grandchildren, and her mother Rose Marie (we named a candle for her, too) has run her own beauty business for 30 years. Many of us at Vyrao have had tough times as the result of misogyny, so we fully support IWD’s main theme this year to #BreakTheBias.
We believe in a gender equal world. So what better time to read about the ‘single positivity’ movement, care of our fascinating interview with Angelica Malin, whose new book ‘Unattached’ shares 30 essays about the many and varied journeys to self-love.
We’ll leave you with the female-lead art and culture inspiring us now:
Olena Slyesarenko, Art Director
Eagle Huntress “An uplifting and inspiring documentary about a 13-year old girl who defies the patriarchy to become the first female eagle hunter. Life affirming and absolute eye candy.”
Melanie Rickey, Editorial Director
“I love Tracey Emin’s fearlessness and honesty.
She creates art expressing all the hard things and makes it beautiful.”
Rhiannon Lucas, Head of Logistics & Operations
“I’m reading ‘Fearless Girls, Wise Women and Beloved Sisters’
about incredible heroines in folk tales from around the world.
Annabelle Syms, E-Commerce Manager
You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise L Hay.
“Yasmin recommended this book as a game changer about health and wellbeing.”
Vickie Biggs, Brand Manager
I love strong, fearless female musicians who break down barriers and inspire that part of me. My favourite power anthems include 50ft Queenie by PJ Harvey, Boys Wanna Be Her by Peaches and as cheesy as it is Celebrity Skin by Hole.
