Can a Perfume Really Improve Your Confidence? I Put One to the Test
I’m a huge believer in the power of perfume. My current collection spans around 20 bottles, and the thing I love most is that there’s one for every occasion. The one you spray before an event, a big meeting or whenever you want to feel a little more put together. Your wedding perfume, first-date perfume, or one your mother or grandmother wore. Scent is extremely powerful. However, I’d never really considered whether fragrance could actually make me feel more confident.
So, when news of Vyrao’s new Ever 11 Eau de Parfum landed on my desk, which has been specifically created to ‘supercharge’ confidence, I was intrigued. Could a perfume really change how I feel each day?
Vyrao’s choice to use ingredients backed by neuroscience is rather interesting. According to IFF’s proprietary Science of Wellness programme, Ever 11’s ingredients are ‘able to enhance self-esteem by 97%’. It contains notes of black cherry to combat anxiety, pink pepper for self-worth, patchouli for balance and Peru balsam oil to calm, and more. We’ve all experienced the power of lavender and sandalwood for relaxation and the soothing scent of camomile for sleep – so why can’t perfume be responsible for feelings of confidence? I was curious to try Ever 11 for myself.
The first thing I noticed is that this isn’t a stereotypically sweet, floral perfume – it has much more to it. It opens with black cherry and pink pepper before moving into rose and peony. Then come the deeper notes: smoky leather, earthy patchouli, vanilla and warm tonka bean. Vyrao describes it as decadent and sensual, and I think that’s pretty accurate.
